Have a Nashville Family Getaway at Opry Mills

Is fall break coming up for you guys? Ours is in just a couple of weeks. Fall break is at a nice time for us since my kids start school in August. Having that time off gives us a little break before they head back to school for the rest of the calendar year.

Being that Nashville is just 45 minutes away from us, visiting there can be a great idea for a mini-vacation. There is so much to do from Opry Mills to enjoying the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

I got the chance to visit Opry Mills and the Gaylord Opryland Hotel to check out what they have to offer for families. We had been to Opry Mills plenty of times before, but this was the first time I was able to check out the Gaylord. I was super impressed.

The Gaylord Opryland hotel has 2,882 guest rooms, nine acres of lush indoor gardens, walkways, and waterfalls, easy access to the Grand Ole Opry with more than a dozen on-site restaurants, eateries, and lounges. Walking around the hotel, I felt like I was in a different world. It could be 20 degrees out in the winter or 100 in the summer and would be a nice and comfortable temperature within the hotel, yet still feel like we were outside. In late 2018 they will be opening an indoor/outdoor water park for the guests of the hotel which will be pretty amazing.

Gaylord Opryland

Since the Grand Ole Opry is right next to Opry Mills and the Gaylord Opryland we were able to take in a show. I had only heard of two of the singers before, Tanya Tucker, and Charles Esten, who plays Deacon on the show Nashville. However, every single one of them was fantastic. Being there was such a treat and was glad I was able to go.  The Grand Ole Opry is a weekly country music stage show that was founded in 1925.

Grand Ole Opry

Opry Mills is the largest outlet and value retail shopping destination in Tennessee. There are over 200 retailers in 1.16 million square feet of space. There is a wide variety of stores, and something for everyone. The mall is located 7 miles from downtown Nashville, in the Music Valley/Opryland area of the city.

At Opry Mills there are plenty of sit-down restaurants to choose from as well as a food court. There are a variety of options based on your budget. While at Opry Mills I got the chance to go to Rainforest Cafe as well as the new Bavarian Bierhaus and the Aquarium restaurant.

Rainforest Cafe

The Rainforest Cafe is a fun restaurant you can take your kids to while you are at Opry Mills. There are animals to look at, and you will probably catch a rainstorm while you are there. They have many different food choices as well as some fun drinks.

bavarian bierhaus

Bavarian Bierhaus is a German restaurant with a lot of culture. You will feel like you are walking into a traditional German Beerfest! The kids will love the food, the costumes, and the music.

We also got to spend some time shopping. I walked around the mall a couple of times and was able to visit some of my favorite stores.

The Lego Store

The Lego Store is always a hit with the kids, and the adults too. You can pick up some extra bricks, make a custom Lego Mini Figure, and check out all the Lego sets they have in stock.

Game Stop

Gamestop is the right place to go to find video games and fun pop culture toys. Kids will love it. They can spend their allowance on used games, new games, and make their Christmas wish lists from everything in the store.

A&A Boutique

A&A Boutique is a cute little shop that sells a lot of Simply Southern shirts and products. There were so many to choose from and all of them very cute. This store would be a good one for picking out a shirt from your trip to Nashville or something for your friends back home.

In addition to shopping and eating, there are also some pretty exciting entertainment options at the mall. We got to take a walk around Madame Tussauds and taste test at Smith Creek Moonshine.

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds is a new addition to Opry Mills having opened in April of 2017. It is a wax museum that started in London by a wax sculptor, Marie Tussaud. This one is dedicated to the history of music, and you can find musicians such as Elvis, Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry. Your kids will get such a kick out of seeing these lifelike wax figures, and Madame Tussauds would be fun for the whole family.

Smith Creek Moonshine

Smith Creek Moonshine is a fun place to go moonshine tasting for the older members of your family and was opened in August of 2017. They also have an amazing store with a vintage car for kids to check out. They also have quite a few fun gifts to bring home from Nashville.

Opry Mills

You can also find a Regal Cinema 20 and IMAX Theater as well as a Dave and Busters in the mall for more entertainment options.

If you are thinking about a place to go for fall break this year, come to Nashville, check out Opry Mills and the surrounding music valley area, and have some fun together with your family. You will all enjoy your trip, and there will be plenty of things for you and your family to do.

Have you ever been to Nashville?
