Walking At Long Hunter State Park In Tennessee

One thing I love to do with my kids is going on a long walk around a lake or other type of trail. Last May we decided to head towards Nashville and walk around the Long Hunter State Park, a 2,600-acre state park in Hermitage, Tennessee, in the Nashville area.

We had been to this park years earlier and always wanted to go back. You can take a trail around the lake where you can walk, run or explore as you walk past everything. This time it took us about an hour to walk around the park. Afterwards, we had a picnic before we headed to our next destination.

Long Hunter State Park

Long Hunter State Park became a state park in 1974 and has four sections. Couchville, Baker’s Grove, Bryant Grove, and Sellars Farm. You can fish, hike, group camp, back country camp, meet up with friends or a community group at their meeting facility, go to the visitor’s center, or go out on a boat. There are two public boat launch ramps as well as boat and canoe rentals on¬†Couchville Lake.

If you like to hike you can find 20 miles of hiking trails in the park. There really is something for a lot of different activity levels which makes the park a lot of fun for so many people. You could spend a whole day hiking or go for a short walk, have a picnic and let the kids play on the playground for a few hours.

If you are visiting the Nashville area or live close enough to visit Long Hunter State Park, you can find the park at 2910 Hobson Pike, Hermitage, TN. Parking is free and can make for a fun family day trip in middle Tennessee.

Have you ever been to Long Hunter State Park? What is your favorite park in the Nashville area?
