5 Things You Must Do When You Start a New Blog
You just started your new blog, you are a bit overwhelmed, what do you need to do to make sure you are up and off to a good start? Here are five things you have to do when you start a new blog:
Social Media Accounts
You need to have social media accounts set up for your new blog. Ideally, the names would all be the same. This isn’t always possible because certain names won’t fit or have been taken by another user.
The best thing to do is set up your accounts as soon as you know what your blog name is going to be, even if you are not ready to launch your blog for a while. Figuring out your social media accounts while you are coming up with your blog name would also be a good idea.
Then you don’t have to worry about the accounts being taken by someone else. Make sure to sign up on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram even if you are not sure how often you will use each of them.
Analytics
You need to be able to track how your blog is growing. This will allow you to see how well you are doing and how well your advertising is doing. You will also be able to view how people are finding your blog and what they are clicking on when they get there.
Google Analytics is the best way to track your stats, and you should get that set up as soon as possible. You can use a plugin, or you can enter the code manually. Go to Google Analytics to get everything set up.
Categories
When you first come up with the idea for your blog you also want to come up with the different categories you are going to use. This will allow people to see what your blog is about and what your posts will be about. You want to go with a handful of categories that people can use to search for your posts.
Make sure you make what you are blogging about clear and tag all posts with the correct category. For example, say your blog is about camping. You categories could be camping equipment, camping locations, camping with kids, camping foods, etc. You can always play around and change them later on as your blog grows.
Post Ideas
Before you launch your blog, you want to have some blog posts already written. You also want to have some blog post ideas waiting for you. That way, once you launch your blog, you will have a plan and some idea of what you need to write about.
Having about 10 pre-written posts and 10-15 ideas would be ideal, more if you are able to do so. This will make your blog launch and the first few months of your blog go a lot more smoothly. You can then add to your list of post ideas as you come up with them.
Logo and Header
When starting your blog, you will also want to brand it. That means having a logo and a header that goes with your theme. This is something you can come up with on your own, or you can pay someone to make them for you.
You can also pay someone to do your entire blog design. You want to have a good logo and header so that people can get to know you and your brand. You can use the logo in your social media and people will start to associate the logo with your blog. This will create more traffic for you and allow you to be seen by more people.
Starting a blog can be an excellent way to get your voice or your business out into the world. Getting going with your blog will be a lot of work, and you will have a lot of things you will need to do. Start with these five tasks, and you will be off to a great start.
